There are many rewards programs out there for the more expensive hotel properties. But not everyone wants to pay for hotel stays at Hilton or Marriott properties. The good news is that there are more frugal options when it comes to hotel rewards programs. One of those is the Choice Privileges hotel rewards program.
Choice Privileges Rewards
Earning points is fairly straightforward. You stay at certain hotels, and receive points, depending on what properties you choose. For some hotels, like Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, and Ascend, you receive 10 points for every dollar you send. When you use extended stay hotels and economy hotels, you get 5 points for every dollar spent.
There is also a bonus if you achieve Elite status. You get a 10% bonus at the gold level, a 25% bonus at the platinum, and a 50% bonus at the diamond. You can also choose to buy more points if you want.
There is a also a Choice Privileges Visa card that you can use to earn additional points. Points can be used for a number of items, including merchandise, airline miles, and Amtrak, in addition to hotel stays. As you add up points from your stays and from your credit card, you can use them for a number of items. However, it takes quite a few points to add up to anything of consequence.
Stays can be redeemed all over the world. There are more than 5,500 locations where you can earn points and redeem them for stays.
Other Perks of Choice Privileges
Choice Privileges does come with some other perks as well. These are perks offered to those who sign up. Signing up is free. Members can receive:
- Express reservations
- Express check-in
- Extended checkout, up to 2 p.m.
- Free high-speed Internet – except at Rodeway Inn
- Free local calls and long distance access
Some of these items seem fairly minor, but the convenience can be really helpful for a few guests. The late checkout can be extremely helpful on occasion, and it’s always nice to have phone access, as well as express check-in. However, for some, the perks just aren’t that great. It takes quite a bit to reach a level where you can get free stays, and some of the perks aren’t enough for some travelers.
